Can I Fix My Golf Swing?

Picture
Throughout the past couple years, I've discovered various methods that I've used to fix my golf swing. As most people who start playing golf, I had a rough swing in the beginning. Actually, it was downright ugly.

After constantly shooting in the 100's over and over, I nearly gave up the game. One of my golfing buddies (who shoots consistently in the 70's and low 80's) told me that if I adjusted a few things to fix my golf swing, I'd turn into a decent player.

I've got to admit - I didn't believe him at first. He offered to show me a few things and gave me a couple good tips to get me started. I noticed some progress right away, which gave me the confidence that I could fix my golf swing. Since I found some of his tips incredibly valuable, I wanted to share those with you to help you improve your golf swing!

You see, most golfers often go through the same process and are always caught up in trying the next new tip or idea. That's not the way to go. The real key in getting lower scores is in the golf swing itself.

What I Learned That Saved My Score

Here's the first thing I learned - Make your back swing shorter. I used to pull my club so far back, thinking it would give me a lot of power. All it did was offshift my balance and cause me to slice the ball every single time. When I shortened my backswing, I noticed a tremendous difference. I started to make better contact with the ball and started to slowly lose that ugly slice! All from shortening my backswing.

This leads me to my next point - Do you have a problem slicing the ball, causing it to madly hook in the wrong direction? This is most likely attributed to keeping your wrists stiff. By rolling your wrists, you'll turn the clubhead and will force the ball straight. Plus, you'll create some overspin, which can help you add more distance when the ball lands and rolls in the fairway.

The last tip my buddy gave me was to use mental focus. Golf is a mental game, and having the right focus can dramatically improve your golf swing and your overall score. Try to imagine where you want to hit the ball before you swing. Think about where you want it to land and actually visualize the ball doing just that. This can truly make a HUGE difference, especially when you're trying to set a target.

You see, these 3 tips worked wonders for me, and they can do the same for you. You won't have to ask yourself, "How can I fix my golf swing" any longer if you just apply these 3 simple rules. Do that, and you'll notice a big difference!
